Update on Raising Houses on Tybee: July 6, 2020

The City received a FEMA grant for approximately $1.5 million to elevate 12 homes.  Two of the 12 homeowners who were approved have dropped out.  Of the ten remaining homeowners, the City has approved plans for one house and that house is now elevated and being reconstructed. The City expects to have several more in construction in the near future.

The City applied for a second FEMA grant to elevate another 49 homes.  They have not been awarded that grant yet, but are still optimistic that it will be approved

A 14-page executive summary and slideshow on carrying capacity
Prepared by Courtney Reich, the consultant hired by the City of Tybee to make recommendations about funding future water and sewer needs. This document was shared with Forever Tybee members in February, 2019 to make them aware of upcoming discussions that will impact their water bill (and quality of life on Tybee). The Master Plan Implementation Committee (MPIC) has been charged with conducting research on best practices from other cities. The City Manager has undertaken a review of water usage across groupings on the island including residential and commercial as well as short term rentals. The MPIC will recommend a plan to City Council in 2019.
